About Cristy Rocio Gonzalez Barrientos

Dr. Rocío González Barrientos, DVM, DACVP is a veterinary anatomic pathologist and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Costa Rica, Dr. González Barrientos completed her residency training in anatomic pathology at Cornell University, followed by work as a diagnostic pathologist at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.

Her professional interests focus on diagnostic pathology, wildlife disease, and marine mammal health, with a particular emphasis on Brucella ceti infections and neurobrucellosis in cetaceans. Her research integrates histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular techniques to better understand disease pathogenesis and improve diagnostic approaches in aquatic species.

Dr. González Barrientos is actively involved in collaborative research and international efforts aimed at advancing marine conservation and public health. She currently serves as Chair of the Student Externship Scholarship Committee of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, where she oversees the review and selection of veterinary student externship awards. In addition to her research, she is dedicated to teaching veterinary students and training residents, with a strong emphasis on practical diagnostic skills and comparative pathology.
