About Laura Adelina Bolaños Aguilar

Dr. Adelina B. Aguilar is originally from Michoacán, Mexico. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Autonomous University of Querétaro and completed part of her veterinary training at the Complutense University of Madrid in Spain.

In 2018, she finished a three-year postgraduate program in Wildlife and Exotic Pet Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she was also certified as an Exotic and Wildlife Veterinarian by CONCERVET. Following her training, she served as a professor at UNAM for one year.

Dr. Aguilar subsequently completed a Zoological Medicine Residency at the University of Georgia in 2022. This program included clinical rotations at the University of Georgia, Zoo Atlanta, and the Georgia Aquarium, providing extensive experience in the care of a wide range of zoological species.

In 2025, she completed a Residency in Anesthesia and Pain Management at the University of Florida, where she gained extensive experience managing a wide variety of complex and critical cases. Her training included participation in open-heart surgeries for dogs with mitral valve disease, management of emergency cases such as equine colic, and advanced imaging and anesthetic procedures in exotic species.

She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in August 2025 and a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine in October 2025.

Dr. Aguilar’s primary professional interests include locoregional anesthesia in zoological species and anesthesia of megavertebrates. She is passionate about advancing anesthetic and analgesic techniques to enhance patient safety and welfare across diverse animal species.
